With the smaller works, the artist often paints outdoors, sketching with watercolor and color pencil. The smaller paper size lends itself to a quick impression before the clouds move, the shadows shorten or lengthen, or the light dramatically changes. Indoors, often in the winter, Minicozzi chooses to paint watercolors from still life … to refresh her skills and to free her mind to develop new ideas for larger paintings.
