For thirty years, Claudia Minicozzi has spent a September week in Martha’s Vineyard painting with a group of artist friends. She’s had gallery shows in Provincetown on nearby Cape Cod, as well as having work in a ‘plein air’ exhibit in Oak Bluffs. Staying in the same rented house every year allows her to witness and capture changes… after a hurricane; or a drought; the eroding cliffs and rearranged ocean beaches brought on by pounding waves; and development. The palette changes, a result of fog or rain, time of day and its shadow patterns, changes in the clouds, or sunrises and sunsets. The artist freely borrows a fleeting visual moment and incorporates it, changing the same landscape, and conveying a new emotion.
