While traveling, the artist prefers to paint a few small sketches, and to take quick photographs of fleeting experiences, and then, to absorb the trip into a visual memory. When back in her studio, Minicozzi tries to capture the excitement felt: to feel the imprint of differing cultures on the landscape; to imagine the patterns of shadows as creating a definable mood; to explore the colors and shapes of different vegetation; or to portray the drama in a foggy or stormy day.
